March of Dimes/Walk America
Every year, half a million babies in the U.S. are born prematurely. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many life long disabilities. The funds we raise in WalkAmerica support research that saves babies' lives.

Our mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

I have started a team for Connor called "Connor's Crew" anyone can join us on the walk and anyone can sponsor us. Our team goal is $2500.00. For those of you who saw Connor in the NICU you know how small he was and what a tough road he fought. Help us raise money so that eventually no babies and no families have to go through all that we did. Check out our page and if you can't walk or sponsor us, please pray for us and all the other NICU families.

9 Month Well baby check up

Hi everyone,

Today Connor had his Nine month check up. He did great of course. He weighed in at 16 pounds 4 ounces and 25 inches long. He is finally on the charts of "normal" kids. He is in the 3rd percentile but hey he is on the chart! Dr Chad was really happy about all of Connor's progress and deemed him fit for some new things. One being he can go to the nursery at the church for the Sunday School hour, he can interact with other kids so long as they are not sick, and that we can pretty much treat him as a normal 5 month old now. Most of Connor's medical prematurity is either gone or well on the way out. PRAISE GOD!!!!

We have some more appointments coming up next month about his liver and with the dermatologist about his hemagiomas (which seem to be fading and or goin away all by themselves!)

Connor rolls front to back and back to front now on a daily basis. Its awesome. He doesn't think so but we do. We are supposed to encourgae him to clap more now and sit up. He is getting the hang of sit up, just doesn't get the balance part and is pretty mad when he falls over!

Don't forget to pledge us in the walk america!!!

Love,
Ali

Walk America

Hey everyone,
As you all well know Connor was born early (duh I know) anyways, I have started a team for the "Walk America" fundraiser. It is put on The March of Dimes an organization that funds research to help avoid prematurity, new treatments for preemies etc. You can check out their page at www.marchofdimes.com. Back to the team news. I have named the team Connor's Crew since we have all been cheering him on and praying for him since he arrived. The walk is on May 5 in Seattle. Anyone can join our team. If you can't join the team but would like to donate to it you can go to http://www.walkamerica.org/s_team_page.asp?SeId=375526&si=DC216795-2A91-439A-AD26-8D5C767A5534 and that will direct you right to the Connor's Crew website Our goal as a team is $2500.00, might sound small but we can always go over it.

I hope you all at least check out all the awesome work that march of Dimes is doing and when you do keep in mind that without them and the staff at UW we may not have Connor Mac!

Love you all,
Ali

New Weight!!!

Hi everyone,
Connor had his monthly Synagis shot today. It is the shot that helps him fight of RSV a terrible respiratory virus that goes around about this time of year. The dose Connor gets is based on his weight. Connor wighed in today at 15 pounds 14 ounces!!! He is just getting so big! Connor was most upset when he got his shots though. He had been showing his regular nurses all his new tricks, like eating his toes and laughing and smiling and grabbing at the lancets that hang with their id's attached. Then they stabbed him with the needles and all bets were off. Connor was HYSTERICAL to put it mildly. The look on his face when his favorite nurse picked him up was one of utter fury and betrayal. Poor little man. He was over it by the time he was dressed and into his stroller. When we got to Judy and Mary's house he had to tell them all about it though and so I am sure he will spend today getting lots of extra love from Mary who already spoils him with all her love for "her handsome little boy".

Connor, Mom and I were supposed to be in Seattle at Children's yesterday, but with the snow we didn't go. We have a new appointment in March now. The good news is that they must not be too worried about Connor if they can put us off to March :)

Life is hectic in the Scharich household as most of you know. Please keep Brian in your prayers as well as Connor and I. We have dates now for Brian's trip but that is about it. Sometimes the less you know the better I think.....

Love to you all,

Ali

Happy Belated 5 months Connor!!!

Wow can you believe Connor is 5 months now??? It is just so crazy to me. Connor of course has no idea but he is sure doing more things and exploring more and more. Connor's latest thing is to touch EVERYTHING and anything that he can grab also goes into his mouth, including Mommy's hair. Connor is still trying very hard to sit up and is getting better but just not quite there, I don't think it will be long until he is able to do it. He is also getting better on his tummy. He doesn't hate it as much and he is starting to sort of "rock" like a seal. Its kind of funny, but don't laugh at him, he will cry!

Connor is loving his time with Mary and Judy. He is used to getting up in the mornings now and heading over there. He loves his Mary and always has a big smile for her. We are blessed that Mary and Judy love Connor like a member of their family. Connor plays with the dogs, examines the Christmas Tree, goes to ballet and watches Mary dance, comes to the church for guitar lessons and meetings, he has even be car shopping! He is very busy when he is with the ladies.

Connor is still sleeping through the night (8ish to 745ish) and he is still on the wedge. We tried going off the wedge but Connor was not ready for it so we went back to it. I have no idea when the wedge will go away and it is truly the least of my worries. Connor has an RSV shot again on the 17th and a trip to Children's lung clinic this month. I don't hook Connor up to the O2 monitor anymore and he seems just fine so I am hoping that when we go to the docs they tell us he looks great and we won't have to go back for a year or something. We shall see. No teeth yet for Connor but we have large amounts of drool. A bib seems to be a constant accesory for him nowadays. We have no idea when the pearly whites will appear but you can be sure there will be a blog about it!

I willpost some new pictures soon,

Love,
Ali
